Men's Ministry
"How good and pleasant it is when brothers live together in unity!"
Psalm 133:1
Purpose
The purpose of the Men's Ministry is to encourage one another in being the man God intended us to be, all to the Glory of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
Opportunities
All men are welcome for the following unique times of fellowship. Please look to the events calendar for contact information and dates.
- Men's Quarterly Choir and Worship Band meets every quarter for leading the congregation in songs of praise and worship.
- Iron Sharpens Iron Men's Conferences. "As irons sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another" Proverb 27:17. Go to www.ironsharpensiron.net for more information and a schedule of upcoming conferences.
- Men's Pasta Dinner: Food, Fellowship, Praise and Teaching. A great time to gather as fathers, sons and brothers in Christ. This event is scheduled just prior to Fathers Day with the focus centered around our Father in Heaven and us men as fathers in this world.
- Men's Retreat: Camp Spofford in New Hampshire on Spofford Lake. Wonderful scenery in a quiet setting. A time of spiritual refreshment along with fellowship in games, fantastic food and taking time out to consider where you are in your walk with the Lord.
- Men's Christmas Fellowship Breakfast: Please join us for a fantastic breakfast, songs of Christmas, and the spoken word of God through guest speakers and testimony. This is a good time to get to know brothers you have not had the time to get acquainted with.

Helping Hands Men’s Ministry

Overview
The Helping Hands Men's Ministry seeks to minister to the men and families of the church, as well as the "widows and orphans" mentioned in Scripture. The ministry is comprised of work teams that meet to help each other with home or community chores, and also reach out to widows and single mothers that would benefit from help around their homes. Their purpose and goal is to represent Christ to those in need, thus bringing glory to God.
Rationale
The Bible provides various exhortations that can motivate us to serve in the Helping Hands ministry. Note the following Scripture passages:
First, we are called to do good works.
- "And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds." Hebrews 10:24
- "…serve one another in love." Galatians 5:13
- "For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do." Ephesians 2:10
Secondly, the recipients of those good works are outlined:
- "Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers." Galatians 6:10
- "Give proper recognition to those widows who are really in need." 1 Timothy 5:3
- "Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress…" James 1:27
Thus, the intended recipients of the ministry are both those within the Body of Christ at Valley Bible Church, and especially, widows and single mothers. Widows and single mothers outside of the Body, in the community, are also intended recipients.
How it Works
Ministry teams will be comprised of men who live in a common geographic area. The men will commit to 2-3 hours, at a time that is convenient for the team. During this time period, the men will meet for 10-15 minutes of devotions and prayer, and then devote the rest of their time to doing chores.
Necessary finances for the work done can be requested from the Deacon's Benevolent Fund, although creative ways to achieve goal is encouraged. |
