| Passage: Read Ezekiel 25-27. |

| These chapters contain prophecies against some of the nations that surrounded Judah and Jerusalem when they were captured. They are denounced for participating in the destruction of God's city. The emphasis here is that God is the God of all nations. He is sovereign over all peoples both in their judgment and in their salvation. See Matthew 28:18-20. Tyre is an interesting example of prophecy fulfilled. 26:12 "They will plunder your riches and loot your merchandise. They will break down your walls and destroy your pleasant houses. Your stones and timber and soil they will cast into the midst of the waters." The city of Tyre was in two parts, with villages on the mainland and the city on an island about a half mile off shore. As an island it was very difficult to defeat. Many nations had tried and failed. When Alexander the Great brought his armies against Tyre, his armies destroyed the parts on the mainland and used the materials to build a causeway out to the island. Then they conquered the city in fulfillment of prophecy. God's Word will be fulfilled even if we cannot figure out how he will do it. We can trust every part of it that we read or hear each day both in promises of blessing and of judgment. |
